Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek
Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is the most popular and challenging camping trek in the Annapurna region. It is also commonly called Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek or Dhaulagiri Round Trek. It takes you to the base camp of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m). The journey starts from Pokhara driving up to Beni Bazaar. We then trek through low farm lands into lush fertile and finally to the desert-like & treeless valleys of the north.
Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek: the route
Much of the route is covered with snow and glaciers while crossing the two high passes, French Col pass (5240m) and the Thapa pass (5,155m). This trek offers a lifelong experience walking through Italian Base Camp and Dhaulagiri North base camp.
During the trek enjoy the panoramic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), the world ’s seventh highest mountain. This massive mountains range consists of fifteen 7000 meter peaks. The entire mountain view is truly breathtaking.
We traverse from the head of Hidden Valley and cross Dhampus Pass (5155m). Our trek ends with a steep descent to Marpha, a popular town of Mustang district and returns to Pokhara via the Ghorepani ridge. You then make a steep descent to Jomsom, where you will meet other trekkers who have descended from the Thorong La on the Annapurna Circuit. Rather than trekking back to Pokhara via the Kaligandaki Valley, you can drive or fly back to Pokhara.
Under normal conditions, the standard route follows moderate snow-bound slopes to the summit and can be attempted with ice axe and crampon. Dhaulagiri trekking is not only for adventure but it also gives insights into the lifestyle of Nepal’s ethnic people like Gurung, Thakali, Magars Thakuri and their unique cultures and tradition with varieties of rituals.
